  A dear friend first introduced me to a place in Wheeling many years ago that was the first experience for many in Wheeling to enjoy Chinese food.  While that place, beloved by many, is now gone... their most popular waiter who was an integral part of the establishment started his own business on the Island.
  
  Always welcome competition.
  
  The ambience is wonderful, well lit, clean, and water features and music.  As you are guided to your table all of the tapestries of a Chinese restaurant are there.  Very Zen for sure.
  
  The menu is fantastic.
  
  Everything you would expect, but my god the prices.  Having lived in Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Dallas - you should expect to pay 2 or 3 times what these guys charge.
  
  Ordering - the staff were attentive, friendly and helpful.
  
  We ordered soups, egg rolls, and split the main course, szechuan beef.
  
  First off the hot and sour soup comes.
  
  Anywhere else in America this is a sweet thick mess.  Not here; it's at the simplest and most flavorful.  Light broth, salt, egg, and other basic ingredients.  Not sweet.  But wonderful.  A dash of pepper to suit and you are amazed.
  
  Next up the egg roll.
  
  Not frozen, tastes fresh,  good ingredients.  
  
  Mains came:  szechuan beef
  
  Now, anywhere else in the states this is beef strips, some basic carrots and celery and the ruined with a syrupy overly sweet sauce.
  
  Not here.  Here it's what I expect.  Not sweet but barely a tad.  Carrots are thin and sparse - just enough.  Celery lonely sliced and properly thick.  Vegetables are tender-crisp.  And then the beef - very properly done as expected.
  
  I have been across the US and Europe and everywhere else the always get these simple dishes wrong.
  
  Martin gets it right.
  
  If you pass through Wheeling and want proper Chinese; come here.  It's amazing!

  We went here as part of my daughter's birthday weekend celebration. It was a struggle getting over to the island from Wheeling because of construction. Being happy to finally find this 'gem", we were unaware as to what was before us. Our waiter turned our celebration into a nightmare. As a starter, my daughter and I ordered the sizzling shrimp rice soup for two. It really befuddled us. It came with no sizzle, no rice and in a tomato broth. It tasted like a store brand canned tomato soup. No where on the menu did it warn that this was an old recipe containing tomato broth. As soon as we told the waiter it was not what we expected-that there was no sizzle, no rice and the broth was not clear, he informed us he was "only a waiter" and could do nothing about it. Right away I could see that he was not  about to offer to take it away and get us something else we might enjoy. (This very tall man with dark hair was not Asian. I say that so diners will know who I dealt with). He told me only the manager could do anything about this. So I said, "Then get the manager!" Eventually, an Asian woman-who didn't introduce herself-listened to my daughter that told her all that we didn't get in this soup. The Asian woman (manager?) told us there is another soup on the menu that has clear broth and that might be what we wanted. But what we chose is a soup long on the menu that older customers from the former owner insisted be served. How could we possibly even know this! We aren't from the area.
  Eventually, we were allowed to order something different but the waiter kept telling me he worked there for 35 years, etc. That did nothing for me. I felt he had no use for women, or respect for the customer's needs. Eventually, the owner(I presume -he did not introduce himself) came by and insisted he would charge us nothing for the 2nd order of soups we ate. My daughter said, no I want to pay. He wouldn't hear of it. But she did leave $10 tip for the waiter. My daughter worked for many years as a waitress in fine dining. It would be difficult for her not to leave him something. She should have left it for the kitchen IMO, not the waiter. No male wait staff has EVER been rude to me as he was in his banter with me. I was shaken by it.
  By the way, the original soup we ordered was on the menu as Shrimp Sizzling Rice soup for 2. DON'T ever order that! We had wonton soup. The wontons had almost no filling.  We left without ordering an entree, perhaps the rest of the menu is ok? What happened to the customer is always right 'Mr no name' waiter? I am 77 years old- what happened to respect for your elders, as well!?!?!

  I really enjoyed my meal at this family owned. Spot.   It was very busy at lunch time and we had to wait for a table, no biggy.  The owners look like twins and are super friendly and on a first name basis with most everyone.
  
  I started with one of the best egg rolls I have ever had.  Crispy, tasty and just perfect.   Egg Drop Soup - hands down the best Egg Drop I have ever had......   On to the dish, Mongolian Beef and it was excellent.  The beef was crispy and served in a dark brown sauce.   I ordered extra spicy.   Very good.  From what I heard, they grow their own spices.  
  
  My only gripe was the crab ragoons, nothing special at all.  Not very good and similar to the frozen, deep fried ragoons found at every Chinese restaraunt in the USA.

  Sitting in the midst of a neighborhood in what looks like a small industrial building his place is a gem.  It was recommended by a local contact and that's why I went. Otherwise I would have passed on this place just based on looks. What a mistake that would have been.
  
  This little place makes its own sources including a spicy homemade sauce sauce. The owner said they actually grow the peppers themselves. I had the Szechuan beef which was tinder, flavorful and perfectly heated with probably their own papers. The egg roll may have been  just your run-of-the-mill eggrolls. However the source kicked it up a notch. This place could use some updating and new carpet as far as Decour. Since I was there to eat not to buy furniture I didn't mind it too much. Both chopsticks way up.

  This place is the Gold-Standard for Chinese food in Wheeling!
  
  Best Chinese food in the area! Fried rice is much better than other Chinese places. Food tastes better and is less salty (just the way Chinese people like their food). This will be my only go-to Chinese place.
  
  Taste wise:
  General Tso 9/10
  Garlic chicken 8/10
  Sweet & Sour chicken 8/10
  
  They have items on their menu that other Chinese places don't like Chow Fun and whole Peking Duck! Feels like I'm back in Southern California!
  
  I give other Chinese places 5/10 rating for their food.
